Sequoia Tangerine Kimmel is a Palauan-Mexican American artist born and raised in Santa Cruz, CA, and currently living in Los Angeles. Kimmel’s work is directly inspired by Palauan Storyboards, a tradition of carving oral legends onto mahogany wood boards. Their ceramics aim to preserve these stories physically and spiritually within themselves, future Palauans and anyone else who can see a part of it within themselves. Adorned with these illustrations, Kimmel aims to integrate these stories within the user’s daily life by transferring these legends onto everyday useful objects, such as vases, mugs, plates—and now a butter dish.
